Write On! Youth Writing Camp helps young writers grow their creativity, confidence, and storytelling skills through a week of hands-on workshops, author visits, games, and community.
Open to students entering grades 5–9, the camp takes place in the Norfolk, Nebraska area.
The 2026 camp will be held at B.E. Adkins Kiwanis Youth Camp.
Camp runs June 22–26, 2026, from 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
On Friday, camp concludes with a publishing party from noon–2:00 p.m., where campers celebrate and share their work with family and friends.
About Camp:
Write On! Youth Writing Camp is a summer writing camp designed for young people who love stories, creativity, and imagination.
What does a week at camp look like?
Throughout the week, campers participate in interactive writing activities, collaborative games, themed workshops, and visits from published authors. Whether a student already fills notebooks with stories or is just beginning to explore creative writing, camp is designed to encourage growth, confidence, and fun.
Our goal is simple: to create a supportive space where young writers feel inspired, encouraged, and proud of their ideas.

We work hard to keep camp affordable while creating an experience that feels special from beginning to end.
Guest speakers:
Campers will meet published authors who share their experiences, creative process, and encouragement for young writers.
Guest speakers help students see that their stories matter — and that writing can become a lifelong passion.
2026 Guest Authors:
Allie Ray — Author, educator, and former librarian; Author of four books: HOLLER, SUFFERING FOOLS, CHILDREN OF PROMISE, and INHERITANCE—all which take place in Osceola, Nebraska.
Gretchen Garrison — Storyteller accidentally turned newspaper writer! Former educator and author of 3 books: Detour Nebraska: Historical Destinations and Natural Wonders, A History Lover's Guide to Lincoln, and 100 Things to Do in Lincoln Before You Die.
Carla Ketner — 2024 Midwest Book Award winner, Paterson Prize winner, and Nebraska Book Award winner. Author of Ted Kooser: More than a Local Wonder.
R.J. Post — 40+ years of professional writing, including Saturday Evening Post’s website, Nebraska Writers Guild, and his own mystery series: The Greenwood Mysteries.

Empowering Young Voices in Northeast Nebraska
Write On! Young Writers’ Camp offers a one-week summer experience in Northeast Nebraska for students entering grades 5–9. In our creative and supportive environment, campers find a true sense of belonging while focusing on positive youth development. Through workshops led by published authors and mentors, we help students grow by: - Strengthening literacy and communication skills - Exploring authentic self-expression - Discovering their unique creative voices We provide a welcoming space where every young writer feels empowered to connect with peers and master the art of storytelling.
