Write On! Camp
Write On! Youth Writing Camp began with a simple question.
In 2025, a parent from my school reached out to ask if I knew of any writing camps in the area for young writers. After looking into it, I discovered that the closest options were at least two hours away. That realization sparked a new question: why not create one here?
The camp began with humble roots at the school where I teach, built from a love of writing and a desire to create creative opportunities for students closer to home. My hope is that each year brings new growth, new opportunities, and an even stronger community for young writers across Northeast Nebraska.
And so, Write On! was born.
Meet the Camp Director:
Stephanie Kollbaum
Hello!
I’m so glad you’re here exploring this site. As I shared above, this camp began with a simple question from a school parent and has grown into something I care deeply about - something I am incredibly proud to be building for young writers in our community.
My name is Stephanie Kollbaum, and I consider myself a lifelong learner. I graduated from Concordia University, Nebraska in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Middle School Education. I have been teaching middle school English (along with a variety of other subjects and topics) since August 2015. In 2021, I began my master’s degree at Johns Hopkins University and graduated in December 2023 with an M.A. in Teaching Writing.
When I was asked if I knew of summer writing opportunities for my students - and found only options that were at least two hours away - I decided to take on the challenge myself. With years of camp experience, a background in writing, and a passion for working with middle school students, I set out to build what would become Write On! Youth Writing Camp - and now, here you are.
More than anything, I am passionate about helping young people experience the joy of writing - especially handwritten writing. In a world increasingly shaped by AI and digital communication, I believe writing by hand is a powerful and deeply personal art form. My hope is that Write On! encourages the next generation of writers to explore their voices, grow in confidence, and become part of a writing community that lasts far beyond one week in the summer.
Thank you for supporting Write On! Youth Writing Camp.
"Write On! Young Writer's Camp kicked off last summer and was an amazing opportunity for my eldest daughter to take part in! While she was an avid reader beforehand, she only wrote bits and pieces for fun from time to time. Then she attended the camp... this past year, she has written so many stories and plays, even writing a play for my birthday (where her siblings took part in it!). This camp introduced her to writing exercises, actual authors, and a welcoming environment with other kids interested in writing! I cannot promote this camp enough!"
